Allahabad as known to Allahabadis:
Comments from a friend who recently visited Allahabad -

The development in alld. has been virtually zilch... the landscape and the skyline is just the same as it was 5 years ago, with the exception of a few big ass hoardings of reliance mobile and connectivity. some major shops have shut down, or grossly pruned in size (archies, bata showroom in civil lines. However, one cannot help but notice the excessive increase in the number of motorized veh. and what used to be normally calm and peaceful areas (taskent marg, chathem lines, darbhanga colony roads) are now filled up till the neck with 2 to 4 wheelers, everybody fighting for every inch of space at breakneck speeds (read 40-60 kmph). The driving has become very offensive and agressive, and a conformance to usual norms (turn indicators, proper turn / overtake policy) can lead to collisions at best, or being branded as somebody with incestous bent of mind by the other party, at worst. people with 2 wheelers drive as if they are the extras on the sets of "Dhoom", and thay have actually turned their rear view mirrors inwards, because they know that other drivers will not allow them that extra space for these contraptions to overhang the normal expanse of the physical dimensions of the bike!!! The use of horns has suddenly become excessive, with everyone having their own "louder than thou" competetion.
Another thing very hard to miss is the use of cellphones and the ringtones. If not for talking, people generally flash it around, more live a cosmetic or a jewellery....
U know, when i was young and in school, my mom used to say "Jaldi ghar aa jana, 6 baje ke baad sadakein badi soonsaan ho jaati hain". This time when i went, my mom told me "jaldi ghar aa jana, 6 baje ke baad badi hi bheed bhaad ho jaati hai sadakon par" ... probably nothing can summarize the exponential growth in the number of people and their "pushpak vimans" better than this...

Allahabad, as always, invokes intense, but opposing feelings of love and hate in me...

Which is very True indeed.
